Call of Duty is back, redefining war like you’ve never experienced before. Building on the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War immerses players into the most gritty and chaotic WWII combat ever experienced. Players band together to survive the most harrowing and climactic battles that led to the demise of the Axis powers on the European and Pacific fronts. The title offers an uncensored experience with unique enemies and combat variety, including Kamikaze fighters, ambush attacks, Banzai charges and cunning cover tactics, as well as explosive on-screen action through the all new four-player cooperative campaign. The addictive competitive multiplayer has also been enhanced with new infantry and vehicle-based action, a higher level cap, more weapons, and a host of new Perks, maps and challenges.

Go to war in the final tension-filled, unforgiving battles against a new ferocious enemy in the most dangerous and suspenseful action ever seen in WWII. Call of Duty: World at War completely changes the rules of engagement by redefining WWII gaming. It brings an uncensored edge to combat, as soldiers face the most harrowing and climatic European and Pacific battles. From the remains of Russia and the ruins of Berlin, to the beach and jungles of the deadly Pacific Theater, the volatile action takes on added depth as you employ new features that previously were only available in multiplayer, including perks, rankings and online stats in up-to full four-player cooperative gameplay.

Features:

New Enemies, Environments and Tactics: Face off against ruthless and tactically advanced enemies that will stop at nothing to defend their homelands, from swamp ambushes and tree-top snipers to fearless Kamikaze attacks. Play as a U.S. Marine and Russian conscript across a variety of Pacific and European locations against the fearless Imperial Japanese and elite German soldiers in epic adrenaline-filled infantry, vehicle and airborne missions.

Co-Op Campaign Mode, Call of Duty Style: For the first time in the franchise, Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-op play, bringing fresh meaning to “No One Fights Alone”. Campaign co-op features up to four-players online, or two-player local split-screen, allowing gamers to experience harrowing campaign missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. Co-op mode incorporates innovative multiplayer components such as challenges, rankings and online stats for deeper re-playability and multiplayer experience bonuses. Co-op mode also features Competitive Co-Op that will show who is really the best player on your team.

Enhanced Multiplayer: Call of Duty: World at War continues the class-based multiplayer action the series is famous for. The addition of vehicle combat with tanks rounds out the multiplayer experience, and features such as persistent stats, player rankings, upgradeable weapons, squad-based gameplay, customizable classes and Perks, have been further enhanced.

The Call of Duty Experience: Call of Duty: World at War utilizes cutting-edge technology including highly-detailed character models, self-shadowing, environmental lighting and amazing special effects to deliver jaw-dropping visuals. Depth of field, rim-lighting and texture-streaming technology bring the adrenaline-pumping combat to life, while physics-enabled battlefields and fire that spreads through environments realistically immerses players into the harrowing and dynamic combat.

Commentary:

This form of war simulation game play keeps getting better and better...but this new version is bigger, yet seem to lack the luster of being the next new installment.

The game in general is very similar to the other releases... too similar there is not really that much new about this game to report.

It is Call of Duty 4 in a WWII setting with a few changes... One you get a flamethrower - let the barbecue begin!

The game is very linear with most of the path you follow predetermined and locked.  Like the other versions of CALL OF DUTY it can become frustrating to be blocked by a fence or bush when in the real world you could just climb over it or blow it up...

The game is good, but the whole concept of these types of FPS has to become more like RPG environments and allow for open movement.  I realize right now that may be impossible, because so much of the game play requires you the character to be at the right location when the action starts in order to correctly participate in the full effect of that action scene.  Thus the need for a controlled entry on where you enter a scene or action sequence is required.

Maybe in the future someone will create a FPS that pulls the character into instances that start depending on where you move to in the open environment.  That way they can control your entry - though in this case there would be multiple, and have the action segments be adjusted depending on where you enter, yet still controlled enough of the action because you are in a instance activated by you entering it... or something like that.  I know - I am rambling again.. sorry.

Internet Mutilplayer seems to be very similar to COD4 with better graphics and sounds.  There seems to be more weapons to choose from and perks.

The sounds and graphics all seem a bit better or improved.. Though many people have complained otherwise?

Overall - if you liked previous version of CALL of Duty then you should be happy with this one as well.

Negatives:

Many people are having problems running the game, particularly XP gamers.  Though I believe this would most likely be a video and directx issue.  I have not experience the problem myself or seen it first hand - I added some basic advice on the bottom.

The game is coded to detect it being played on a LAN Party with the same licensed version "key"... Thus you can not buy one copy and share it in a LAN for a group to play.  Each LAN member must have a different license version to connect and play the game as a group.

The game is coded to detect multiple people using the same licensed version "key" online.  So again, everyone must have a legal copy on thier own computer to get together and play it.

Game Play Sugestions:

1. Uninstall the game and reboot.

2. Run CCleaner on both files and registry.

3. Update video, sound drivers, directx..

4. Disconnect / Remove any usb drives, or usb card readers, ipods.

5. Reinstall the game and set the setting to lowest levels to start out.
