| MASS Effect |
Mass Effect is an action role-playing game developed by BioWare for Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The Xbox 360 edition was released worldwide in November 2007. The PC edition was released on May 28, 2008, published by Electronic Arts. The game takes place in the year 2183, with the player assuming the role of an elite human soldier named Commander Shepard, set out to explore the Galaxy on a starship, the SSV Normandy. In addition to plans for two sequels to complete a trilogy, BioWare plans to release episodic content online to fill in the story between each game, though these episodes are not essential for understanding the main plot line. The first of these downloadable content packages was released on March 10, 2008 for the Xbox 360, and July 29, 2008 for the PC. Comments: I really like the general idea / concept of the game. It is kinda like Knights of the Old Republic and a modern military game all rolled up as one. The story line and character involvement is better the some other games like Neverwinter Knights II. It is also contains many interesting side quests to help fill the depth of the game time. Plus also mentioned above it will have continued content to purchase much like Neverwinter Knights. Complaints: 1. It has many video action scenes, that stop your game play to show you a video clip - only to later drop you in a battle that you are not prepared to fight. Plus you can not save the game after the video clip is played. So you get stuck watching the dang movie again, again, again, until you can figure out how to survive the encounter. 2. The PC version hangs with certain DUO CPU and AMD Configurations - I am currently stuck in a spot where it freezes toward the end of the game, and have not had the pleasure to finish the games as of yet. That being said - they just released a patch to fix the problem on AMD CPUs and it did seem to help some, but I still get stuck during a zone change and the software crashes. 3. When you first start the game - it gives you no clue on how to fly the ship from one location to another. (hint - bridge where the solar system map is located - climb up steps and click on it.) My self and many others spent way to much time trying how to just get the actual flight part of the game in gear. This is a spot where a much needed pop-up - or character explanation would have came in handy. 4. Weapons - Grenades and upgrades for it - seems to not work right on the PC version. 5. The vendor licenses to have better access to more sales items on the vendor within the Normandy needs to be better explained, and the license description should be clearer on why to purchase it.
Since I have not finished, and may not be able too - I can not finish this review...
Great concept - a little buggy - but overall it is fun to play! |
