Fallout 3 - is an action role-playing game released by Bethesda Game Studios.

It is the third major game in the Fallout series, which has also spawned the spin-offs Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 30 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the game's world. The game places the player in the role of an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect a small number of humans from the nuclear fallout. When the player's father disappears in mysterious circumstances, the player is forced to escape from the Vault and journey into the ruins of Washington D.C. to track him down.

Along the way the player is assisted by a number of other human survivors and must battle a myriad of enemies that now inhabit the wasteland. The game has an attribute and combat system typical of an action role-playing game but also incorporates elements of first-person shooter and survival horror games.

Create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of post-apocalyptic Washington D.C.

Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, Slavers, Wild Mutated Animals and other dangers of the Wasteland.

Story:

Vault 101 – Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you’ve ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.

Commentary:
I love this game... no really I love this game and you will not be disappointed,,, That is until you finish it and want even more content today!!!
The graphics are wonderful and well detailed, nice sound that matches the movement of the enemies, the AI enemy combatants are smart and resourceful. I many cases in the wild wasteland you are either the hunter or prey - it is really about survival of the strongest - you either be the quick running prey, or the hunter that takes no prisoners.

The story line is well developed with many options depending on your Karma rating and what skills you use to get things done.

Karma is rated / or changed on how you solve problems, hand situations, who or what you kill, and so forth. You can be a hero, evil bastard, or something in between and it will make a difference to how the world acts around you.
You get a real feel for being there and you see how your actions can make a difference in the world around you.

* Save often - so when the game is over you can go back and try different options at certain quests to get a larger play time with the same character.

Negatives:
1. GNC (Galaxy Radio) someone please send them more music.. I love the music they have, but they need some more... Not the same 3 or 4 over and over again - in my head and it will not stop... someone just shoot me!
2. 3rd person - not so good to use.
3. Sometimes my camera view will spin needlessly when I move the mouse quickly at an angle and I end up staring straight up into the sky.

Companions:
These are the ones I have located in the game.
There are more and depending on your karma will help determine if they will join up with you.
You can have Dogmeat and one other companion at a time.

Dogmeat:
a very faithful scavenger dog - get him first thing, he will keep the enemy busy so you can use range attacks, or fight another enemy! He was the ability to track down ammo, weapons, and chems for you. Then he gives them to you... "good boy". This ability is best used is buildings and room after you clear the mobs. You do not want him to get lost from you during a fire fight.

Warning: If Dogmeat dies then he is gone for good. So keep him healed, happy, and close to your side when you zone to other areas.

To find Dogmeat - You can recruit Dog meat pretty much right after you escape Vault 101, but it is a little bit of a walk. First, go to the town of Megaton. Follow the ramp above the clinic to a store called "Craterside Supply". The shopkeeper Moira is working on a "Vault Dweller's Survival Guide" and needs you to do some research. The first chapter has three quests that you can perform in any order you choose. Pick the "Minefield" quest. She'll mark that town on your map.

Walk up to Minefield. You'll have to cross a river at some point so just watch out for mirelurks - they're giant, heavily armored crabs who can be a bit tough with underdeveloped combat skills. If you run afoul of any, shoot them in the face (their only weak spot) and run away sobbing. On the way up to Minefield, look for a giant junkyard called simply "Scrapyard". That's where we want to go. It's south and slightly east of Minefield but not too far away. It's pretty massive so you shouldn't have any problems spotting it.

On the northern side of the junkyard, you'll come across a dog fighting a few raiders.
Talk to him after the raiders are dead and you can get him to tag along with you on your journey through the Wasteland.

You can open a dialogue with him and tell him to wait somewhere if you've got a not-so-dog-friendly mission, scavange for stuff, and so forth.

Warning: It is best to leave him just outside of Minefield - clear the area then take him back with you to Megaton after the quest is complete. You can use the fast travel option in the PIP-Boy and he will stay with you.. Just remember to tell him to follow you before you fast travel, otherwise you will have to go back and get him.

Warning: Do not have him in scavenge mode and you fast travel. He will get lost and you may not find him again, until you get toward the end of the game.

Lost Dogmeat? - He will find you again in the tunnel heading to the citadel to meet up with the Brotherhood of Steel.

Warning: :Leave him at home or the citadel, when you go to do the Lamplight - Geek - Vault 89 quest!

Details:
1. He seems to receive significant level boost once you get to the citadel.
2. Dogmeat doesn't count toward the game's one companion limit. Thus, you can recruit Dogmeat and still be able to grab another more human companion.
3. Domeat is very aggressive and makes for a great warning system of oncoming attacks. He will growl, move his head toward oncoming enemies, and if you are not moving, he slowly inches toward the enemy. He has a stronger sense of perception and will constantly spot enemies long before you will.

Star Paladin Cross from Brotherhood of Steel:
She asked to join me on my quest to help the wasteland. I located her at the citadel of the Brotherhood of Steel near the labs and Ring A.
She will only stay with you if you have a positive Karma and do not do evil action while with her. She specializes in close combat, but can also use range weapons as well.

Fawkes - Super Mutant:
He is a very intelligent Super Mutant that loves close combat and Large Ranged Weapons. He is almost unstoppable and makes for a great companion for any situation.
Located in a cell on the experimental area at Vault 87 - If you free him and let him help you get the GEEK. Then we will most likely join up with you after you leave "Raven Rock" later on.
